The World Is All Around You

Just look – the world is all around you

There are more than 200 countries in the world. The challenge is to find physical evidence of links to them all.

Getting started

There were three easy steps:

  1. Look around and discover features in your neighbourhood that link to a particular country. Remember, we were looking for things you could see in the built and natural environment. Most will be seen outdoors, but some may be inside public buildings. We were not looking for objects in museums, libraries or galleries.
  2. Find out the country(s) and the story behind each link, and make a careful note of the feature and its location, including the street name, town or village, and if possible the postcode.
  3. Send us your findings – and a photo of the feature too if you can – and we added them to the growing map of links across the UK. How is explained below.

The key is to keep your eyes open, even on a journey to school, to work or to the shops. You will be amazed at what you can find once you start looking. Some people even find it difficult to stop!
